Laser quest & bowling

An end of year laser quest & 10 pin bowling session was held at Xscape, Castleford. We entered the world Jambowlree competition, which runs from December to May; fingers crossed we’ll do well.

Grace astounded everyone (herself included!) with 3 strikes in a row; apparently this is called a turkey. How appropriate at this time of year.

World record

Steve and Chris _40

Two of our unit, Morgan & Paul, were presented with not one, but two world record plaques, by Steve Backshall, Scout ambassador. He kindly took time out from his book tour schedule at the Royal theatre, Harrogate, to present the 2 plaques to the #railwayrecord team who set the record in August 2018. The journey was to help fundraise towards going the the World Scout jamboree in North America this year.

Eurojam camp

Colin took Lucy & Matthew with the rest of the central Yorkshire county unit going to Eurojam in Poland on their first unit camp.

Camping at Snowball plantation in York, the camp was for the team, known as the Phat rascals, to start to get to know each other ahead of Eurojam, the European jamboree, next year.

Donations towards the fundraising can be made via Just Giving.

Well done (again)

Our 3 Explorers (Lucy, Morgan and Tom) who gained their Chief Scout’s platinum and Duke of Edinburgh’s bronze award badges earlier this year were presented with their certificates at the Central Yorkshire Scout county awards ceremony.

Morgan also took part in a presentation about his unit (28) attending the jamboree during the summer to an audience including the deputy Lord-lieutenant of West Yorkshire.

Coffee morning

On Saturday 26th January there is a coffee morning at Wetherby St James Church Hall, Church Street, Wetherby 9am-1.30pm to raise funds for Alex Nield, Josh Taylor and Lucy Taverner for the 2019 World Scout Jamboree.

We’ve 4 Explorers (hopefully) going to the World Scout jamboree this July / August. Alex and Josh are going with unit 37/38, Morgan is going with unit 28 and Lucy is on the reserve list so we’re crossing fingers that she’ll get to go too.
